I didn’t start at the top. Like most people, I started in an entry-level customer service and collections role making 100+ calls a day, commuting to the office, and learning the realities of the traditional 9-to-5 grind. Over time, I worked my way up into senior roles and eventually management. That’s where I gained a completely different perspective.

As a hiring manager, I reviewed thousands of resumes, helped shape interview questions, and participated in hiring decisions for customer service and remote-based roles. I saw firsthand what helped candidates stand out, and what caused others to get overlooked.

When the world changed in 2020, our company transitioned fully remote. That shift changed how we worked, how we managed teams, and how hiring evolved. It also reinforced something important:
